The Nebraska Sand Hills were active dunes as recently as 600 to 700 years ago. In very extreme drought conditions, they will be again at some time in the future — hopefully, the far distant future.

I can imagine how magnificent the wildflowers must be and the insects and small mammals. A photographer’s dream. The landscape feels endless.
